MKF Students Discuss ‘Sustainability’ during Rayaat Monthly Meeting


Manama, Bahrain, – 14 April 2019:
Rayaat Scholarship Program of Al Mabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation conducted its monthly meeting at the Youth Innovation Center to discuss Sustainable Development and the importance of recycling to protect the Kingdom’s environment and adopting the best practices to preserve it for future generations.

The meeting aimed to help students identify sustainable development goals and educate them about the importance of recycling and saving the environment by making models out of used items. It started with a session by Dr. Najat Ishaqi, –      Active member, UN- ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council for reviewing and following up the progress on the implementation of Sustainable Development goals and agenda 2030,  NewYork, USA, highlighted the importance and effects of sustainability and recycling by talking about the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Meeting concluded with a motivational speech delivered by Mr. Salah Bushehri- Designer & Managing Director of Chandal Group, where students were encouraged to reuse items and find new and creative uses for old items, the students also worked on creating creative figures made from recycled materials.

The meeting ended with announcing a recycling competition for the students, sponsored by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC). The rules of the competition included utilizing used items to make a model out of readily available materials in Bahrain. The end product should be reusable. The process of making the product should be documented in photos and videos. Winning teams will be selected in two categories, Best Model and Best Video.

This comes as part of a series of meetings held every month for Rayaat Students, aiming to create awareness among students about the realities of the local labour market. These meetings also seek to provide students with the soft skills they need at different stages of their lives on personal and career levels. They also feature training workshops and activities all year round.

“Rayaat Scholarship” program was launched in 2011 as a comprehensive approach to promote educational achievement and personal development through providing students with scholarship opportunities at accredited universities in the Kingdom. The program provides scholarships for students to join an accredited university in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as offering many benefits including financial incentives, workshops and opportunities. Training in the public and private sectors, as it also offers opportunities to promote a culture of ‘community responsibility” by instilling volunteerism and community service in a supportive environment.
