MKF's Ithra Youth Programme Takes Part in Jordan's Hassan Youth Award

Four students from the Ithra Youth Programme of AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation took part in the Expeditions programme, one of the components of the Hassan Youth Award in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, held from 24 to 29 July. The participation reflects the Foundation's keenness to learn first-hand about the training and practical activities the programme offers to students.

The Hassan Award gives young people aged between 14 and 24 the opportunity to take part and engage in its four main programmes, covering service, skills, physical activity and expeditions.

The Expeditions programme aims to foster a spirit of adventure and discovery through participation in a group journey, teaching participants camping skills, map reading, the use of a compass, abseiling and living alongside others. The programme also included a visit to the ruins of Jerash and a visit to Petra, in addition to trips to the Wadi Rum desert and the Dead Sea.

The Hassan Award and the Ithra Youth Programme are similar in their objectives and vision, both of which serve the interests of young people by developing their abilities, honing their talents and instilling the values and leadership skills that enable them to achieve results at every level, both personal and social.

It is worth noting that the idea of the Hassan Award was modelled on the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, which was first implemented in 1956. The concept has since spread to many countries around the world under different names, and is known in Jordan as the Hassan Youth Award, which was launched in 1984 as a pilot project at the Baccalaureate School in Amman.
